They only asked if something could be done-never if it should.” She notes that: “The men did not seem to care. Turns into an indictment of the friends she’s so determined to impress. The ultimate question raised by Mary: “…what would happen to that ‘lifeless matter’ once someone had given it life?” Many consider this story to be an apt metaphor for the atomic bomb and its developer, Oppenheimer, who expressed regret at what had been unleashed on humanity. Now, it appears to be required reading for those capable of creating any sort of biological or technological monster, intentional or otherwise. Such as: Who can Emma trust now that she can't reach Sutton? Which adorable guy is actually Sutton's boyfriend? What more do Sutton's parents know? Sutton also insinuated that her parents did something horrible and know more than they lead on about her adoption, just providing one of moments that left me scratching my head for more answers. Shortly before her seventeenth birthday, Emma discovers she has a long-lost twin named Sutton Mercer. ![]() The closing shot depicts Sutton on the receiving end of a surprise attack. The first book in the New York Times bestselling series The Lying Game, by the author of the bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, Sara Shepard.
